Bahlil Accompanies Prabowo at ASEAN Summit in Philippines, Pushes for Energy Cooperation
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia accompanied the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, or the 48th ASEAN Summit, in Cebu, Philippines, on 7-8 May 2026.
During this visit, President Prabowo, together with the Heads of State of ASEAN member countries, discussed various regional strategic agendas, including strengthening ASEAN energy cooperation and resilience.
As part of this agenda, Bahlil is scheduled to accompany the President in all meetings discussing strategic energy sector issues of common concern to ASEAN countries, one of which is cross-border electricity interconnection in the ASEAN region.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dwi Anggia, stated that Indonesia’s participation in the ASEAN forum is an important momentum to strengthen regional energy collaboration amid global geopolitical dynamics.
“Indonesia continues to push for strengthening ASEAN energy cooperation to ensure that regional energy resilience remains maintained, including through strengthening energy connectivity, supply diversification, and accelerating sustainable energy transitions,” said Dwi Anggia on Thursday (7/5/2026).
According to her, Indonesia also emphasised the importance of regional solidarity and coordination in facing global challenges that could potentially affect the stability of energy supply and the regional economy.
This year’s ASEAN Summit, which carries the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together”, focuses on strengthening regional stability, economic integration, food and energy resilience, as well as sustainable development in the ASEAN region. Indonesia’s presence in the high-level ASEAN forum is part of efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, including in the strategic energy sector, regional energy resilience, as well as strengthening connectivity and sustainable development in ASEAN.
