Bahar bin Smith's Lawyer Claims the Assault Victim Demands Rp 2 Billion to Reach a Settlement

TANGERANG — The mediation process in the assault case involving Bahar bin Smith did not result in a peace agreement. Bahar’s lawyer, Ichwan Tuankotta, said that at the mediation held on Thursday, 26 February 2026, the victims presented two demands as a condition for settlement through restorative justice (RJ). However, one of the demands was a large cash payment for rehabilitation. ‘Disampaikan melalui istri prinsipal ada dua tuntutan untuk mencapai RJ. Salah satunya permintaan sejumlah uang Rp 2 miliar untuk pemulihan,’ Tuankotta told Kompas.com on Thursday, 5 March 2026. However, when the mediation took place at the Tangerang City Metro Police, the amount remained Rp 2 billion. He again confirmed the amount requested in the mediation. Yet the victims again asserted that the amount requested was Rp 2 billion. ‘Sempat saya konfirmasi kembali berapa angka dan dijawab lagi oleh istrinya prinsipal Rp 2 miliar,’ said Tuankotta. On hearing the demand, he deemed the request unreasonable. ‘At that moment I reacted, ’this is extortion’,’ he said. ‘I was present as the legal representative for HBS, then the legal representatives of Pak Haji Arif and colleagues, also the lawyer for Ridha and the principal Ridha and his wife,’ he added.
