Bagong, a bull from Gunungkidul weighing 1.080 kilograms, selected as President Prabowo's sacrificial animal
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GUNUNGKIDUL – A bull owned by a farmer from Gunungkidul Regency has been selected as the sacrificial animal for the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, ahead of Eid al-Adha 2026. The bull, named Bagong, was purchased for IDR 100 million, even though it was initially raised with an investment of only around IDR 50,000 through artificial insemination.
Sugeng Hadi Prayitno, a farmer from Padukuhan Kenteng, Ngalang Village, Gedangsari District, Gunungkidul, admitted that he did not expect his bull to be selected as the President’s sacrificial animal. In early May, officers from the Agriculture and Food Service of Gunungkidul Regency came to his farm to select the presidential sacrificial animals.
At that time, Sugeng proposed two Simmental bulls with weights of 1,080 kilograms and 1,025 kilograms respectively. Of the two bulls, only Bagong was eventually selected.
“This bull was surveyed by officers from the Animal Husbandry Service, after being surveyed and clarified, this bull was for the President’s sacrifice and asked to be weighed. A few days later, it was visited by laboratory officers to check its health and the results were sent to the Ministry. After that, I was asked to send my account number, NPWP (tax identification number) and ID card,” he said on Saturday (16/5/2026).
