Bagas Dies with Family During Camping Trip, Identified as Jogja Palace Photographer

Bagas Amar Hakiki, a 21-year-old French literature student at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), was found dead alongside his parents and younger sibling during a camping trip in Kledung, Temanggung. He also worked as a freelance photographer for the Jogja Palace.

This was confirmed by Pengajeng Hudyanawara Kawedanan Tandha Yekti Keraton Jogja, Nyi RW. Kartiutami Guritno. She stated that Bagas had undertaken an internship as a photographer in 2024 before becoming a freelance photographer for the Jogja Palace.

‘Bagas initially joined the KTY internship programme in 2024. After observing his strong photographic skills during the internship, he and two others were retained as part of the KTY documentation team as freelance photographers after completing their year-long internship,’ Kartiutami told journalists on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

‘He was a freelance photographer but part of the core documentation team,’ she added.

Kartiutami also recalled Bagas as a pleasant and helpful individual.

‘We remember Bagas as someone who was helpful, reliable, and pleasant. We are deeply saddened, not only losing one of our best photographers but also a colleague, friend, younger sibling, and dear companion,’ she concluded.

It was previously reported that UGM student Bagas Amar Hakiki died in Posong, Temanggung. Prof Setiadi, Dean of UGM’s Faculty of Humanities (FIB), confirmed Bagas was a French Literature student.

Bagas was a 2022 intake French Literature student. According to reports, he died alongside his parents in the early hours of Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

‘Yes (correct). He is one of our French Literature students,’ Setiadi told journalists on Thursday, 27 May 2026.

Setiadi said he only received information about the incident that morning. The faculty is still awaiting further details from the police.

‘There have been no further updates as the police are still investigating the circumstances and any potential connections, so we are waiting for more information,’ he concluded.

Bagas was found dead in a tent with his father, mother, and younger sibling. All four were discovered lifeless by the campsite management in Temanggung.

Police have conducted autopsies and suspect all four died from poisoning. They have since been buried in Semarang.
