Baffling Theft: Manggarai Station Toilet Flush Pipes Stolen Repeatedly

A case of theft has occurred at Manggarai Station in South Jakarta, with the stolen object being toilet flush pipes. The news has been widely circulated on social media, with photos showing the missing flush pipes. As a result, flushing the toilets had to be done manually, with cleaning staff at Manggarai Station seen pouring water and cleaning the affected toilets.

Franoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager of Operational Area 1 Jakarta, explained that the theft of the toilet flush pipes occurred on Monday (27/7) at around 7.31 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The theft took place in the men’s toilet. “There was an indication of the theft of two flush pipes in the men’s toilet on the first floor of Manggarai Station,” Franoto said when asked for confirmation on Tuesday (28/7/2026).

He stated that information about the theft was obtained after a passenger reported to station staff that a facility was missing. The perpetrator’s actions damaged public facilities and impacted railway service users. “After checking the toilet room, it was confirmed that two sets of flushing pipes were missing,” he said.

Many parties have expressed regret over the theft of public facilities used by train passengers. KAI also apologised to customers affected by the vandalism. “KAI conveys its apologies to affected customers or passengers, and station officers immediately handled the service and carried out repairs in the area,” he said.
