Baduy Customary Leader Jaro Saidi Putra Passes Away

The customary leader of the Baduy community in the hinterlands of Lebak Regency, Banten, Saidi Putra (7s), who also served as Jaro Tanggungan 12, was reported to have passed away on Friday (4/9) at 09:00 WIB at the Adjidarmo Rangkasbitung Regional Hospital.

“We buried the late Jaro Saidi Putra this afternoon,” said the Head of Kanekes Village, Jaro Oom, who is also a Baduy community leader, when contacted in Rangkasbitung, Lebak, on Friday.

Jaro Saidi Putra was a member of the Baduy Community Customary Institution, holding the position of Jaro Tanggungan 12. The role of Jaro Tanggungan 12 involves acting as a liaison between the indigenous community and external parties.

Furthermore, during every Seba celebration with regional heads (regents and governors), Saidi Putra was the one who led the Seba ritual.

The funeral of the Baduy community leader took place in Cicampaka Village, Kanekes Village, Leuwidamar District, Lebak Regency.

“We have lost a significant figure of the Baduy community, Saidi Putra, in his capacity as Jaro Tanggungan 12,” said Jaro Oom.

The Head of the Communication, Informatics, Statistics, and Encryption Office (DiskominfoSP) of Lebak Regency, Anik Sakinah, stated that the local government expressed its condolences on the passing of Jaro Saidi Putra.

“May his good deeds and kindness be accepted by God Almighty,” she said.

Meanwhile, numerous residents, media outlets, and indigenous community groups in Lebak Regency have also expressed their condolences following the death of the Baduy community leader.

“He was a Baduy community leader who loved unity, peace, harmony, and concord,” said Customary Leader Sabaki Sukanta.
