The Badung Transport Agency (Dishub) has unveiled a traffic management scheme for the Kerobokan Kelod area in North Kuta, Badung, Bali, during the Melasti processions ahead of Nyepi Day. The pilot one-way traffic engineering scheme in this area is expected to coincide with the Melasti ceremonial processions.

The Acting Head of the Badung Transport Agency, I Made Gede Wiryantara Adi Susandi, urged residents to comply with instructions from field officers to prevent congestion resulting from the implementation of contraflow schemes and vehicle flow restrictions during the Melasti processions.

“We are focusing traffic management in the Kerobokan Kelod area because there is a one-way circulation system being implemented there,” said Wiryantara on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

The Melasti ceremony processions will run from 15-17 March 2026. Hindu worshippers’ processions will travel to various beaches, including Kuta Beach, Petitenget Beach, and Batu Bolong (North Kuta), as well as Seseh Beach (Mengwi).

Wiryantara stated that the contraflow system at Simpang Semer in Kerobokan will be applied for processions coming from the north, such as from Dalung-Padang Luwih towards Petitenget Beach. At Simpang Semer, contraflow will be directed southwards, meaning traffic from Gunung Sanghyang Road will be temporarily held. Worshippers performing the Melasti ceremony will walk from the north towards Simpang Petitenget and then westward towards the beach.

The estimated departure time for the Melasti processions is 07:00 WITA, with arrival at the beaches expected around 10:00 WITA. After the ceremony concludes, processions will begin returning to their respective villages around 13:00 WITA.

Wiryantara requested residents who will pass through the Kerobokan Kelod area where the pilot traffic engineering scheme is being implemented—including Jalan Raya Kerobokan, Jalan Pengurangan Jauh, Mertanadi, and Jalan Kayu Aya—to use alternative routes during the specified times. Residents were also urged to remain disciplined by following officer instructions at the location if they continue to pass through the Kerobokan area.

“The return routes will also feature contraflow, especially for those from Padang Sambian Kelod, where they will return from Kayu Aya heading east. We hope the community follows officer instructions in the field so that security and smooth flow are maintained,” he stated.

To prevent mass congestion on main routes during Melasti, police will regulate departure schedules coordinated by each traditional village, including those from outside Badung. The Badung Police Department is collaborating with pecalang (traditional security) to ensure the smooth running of Melasti, particularly in the North Kuta and Mengwi jurisdictions.

“The Badung Police Department is deploying 73 personnel at each of the previously mentioned points. We continue to collaborate with pecalang, Dishub, and local police, particularly in North Kuta and Mengwi Police District,” said Badung Police Traffic Commander, Senior Officer Ni Luh Tiviasih.

“Schedules have been arranged by each, whether from Tabanan or Badung. We just need to prepare the locations and route security in collaboration with pecalang and Dishub in the field,” she concluded.
