Badung Regent Says PSEL Project Accelerates Waste Management, Protects Bali Tourism

Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa has expressed full support for the construction of the Denpasar Raya Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility in Benoa Harbour, Denpasar. The cross-sector collaboration project is considered a crucial acceleration in addressing the rising volume of waste in the Sarbagita area. “The groundbreaking of the PSEL, which we have long awaited, can finally be carried out. This is an important step in presenting a more integrated waste management system for Badung Regency and Denpasar City,” Adi Arnawa said during the ceremony on Wednesday (8/7/2026). The modern facility is designed to process a minimum of 1,200 tonnes of waste per day originating from Denpasar City and Badung Regency. Adi Arnawa noted that the waste problem has been a concern for many parties, including international tourists, and this facility demonstrates Bali’s seriousness in providing a modern, environmentally friendly, and sustainable solution. The Badung Regency Government appreciated the full support from the central government and Danantara in realising this environmentally friendly project. The facility is expected to strengthen international confidence in Bali’s commitment to environmental conservation. “We hope the construction can be completed on time so that the benefits can be immediately felt by the community, both in terms of waste management, environmental quality, and the tourism sector,” Adi Arnawa added. The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Environment Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/CEO of BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani, Bali Governor Wayan Koster, and Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara. Governor Wayan Koster stated that the PSEL facility is a moment of real transformation to reduce landfill dependency and is part of a national strategy utilising green technology. The integrated waste processing facility is targeted for completion within a 15-month physical construction period. Minister Rosan Roeslani emphasised the commitment to strictly monitor the construction target to ensure the facility is ready for commercial operation on schedule by the end of 2027.
