Badung Regent: Bali PSEL Strengthens Commitment to Environmental Conservation

The Regent of Badung, Bali, I Wayan Adi Arnawa, has said the Bali Waste-to-Energy Plant (PSEL) will strengthen international trust in Bali’s commitment to environmental conservation.

“This is an important step in bringing a more integrated waste management system to Badung Regency and Denpasar City,” he said at the official launch of the Bali PSEL construction in Denpasar on Wednesday.

Adi Arnawa said the construction of the plant, with an investment value of Rp3 trillion, represents an important acceleration in tackling the surge in waste volumes across Bali, particularly in Denpasar City and Badung Regency.

Once operational, the Bali PSEL is projected to reduce emissions per tonne of waste by 80 per cent compared with open dumping at landfill sites, and to process more than 500,000 tonnes of waste per year.

The facility has been designed to deliver tangible benefits for waste management, green energy and the local economy, in line with the environmental standards of the European Industrial Emission Directive (EU IED).

Regent Adi Arnawa noted that the waste problem has long been a concern for many parties, including foreign tourists.

With the arrival of the waste-to-energy facility, Bali is demonstrating its seriousness in providing a modern, environmentally friendly and sustainable solution.

“We hope the construction can be completed on time so that its benefits can be felt by the community as soon as possible, whether in terms of waste management, environmental quality or the tourism sector,” he said.
