Badung Regent: Bali PSEL Strengthens Commitment to Environmental Conservation

Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa has stated that the Bali Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility will strengthen international confidence in Bali’s commitment to preserving the environment. “This is an important step in delivering a more integrated waste management system for Badung Regency and Denpasar City,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bali PSEL in Denpasar on Wednesday. Adi Arnawa noted that the construction of the PSEL, with an investment value of Rp3 trillion, represents a crucial acceleration to address the surge in waste volume in the Bali region, particularly in Denpasar City and Badung Regency. The Bali PSEL is projected to reduce emissions by 80 per cent per tonne of waste compared to open dumping methods at landfill sites and will be capable of processing more than 500,000 tonnes of waste per year. The Bali PSEL is designed to have a tangible impact on waste management, green energy, and the local economy, adhering to the environmental standards of the Europe Industrial Emission Directive (EU IED). Regent Adi Arnawa revealed that the waste issue has long been a concern for many parties, including international tourists. With the presence of this waste-to-energy facility, Bali is demonstrating its seriousness in providing a modern, environmentally friendly, and sustainable solution. “We hope the construction can be completed on time so that the benefits can be immediately felt by the community, both in terms of waste management, environmental quality, and the tourism sector,” he stated.
