Badung Regency Prepares Water Taxi Option to Tackle Canggu Traffic Congestion

The Badung Regency government is preparing an innovative measure to address the increasingly chronic congestion in the Canggu tourism area. One of the options being readied is the provision of a water taxi service. Regent of Badung, I Wayan Adi Arnawa, stated that this innovation is an urgent necessity to maintain tourist confidence in Bali’s tourism sector. He made the remarks during a Regional Development Coordination Meeting in Denpasar on Monday (20/7/2026). “There are several points that have become access bottlenecks in Bali, for example our access to Canggu. I think this innovation is indeed an urgent matter so that it will become a source of confidence for our tourism,” said Adi Arnawa. In addition to water transport modes, the Badung Regency Government is also pushing for land infrastructure development. Adi Arnawa is hoping for budget support from the central government for the construction of a new road connecting Jalan Gatot Subroto Barat, Denpasar, directly to the Canggu area. According to him, without the addition of new road sections, the traffic burden in the area will continue to increase. “Because it seems that if we don’t do this, the congestion will worsen. We hope that for this effort, if possible, the central government can help,” he added. On the same occasion, Regent Adi Arnawa also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Public Works for the installation of breakwaters in the Kuta Beach area. He proposed that the abrasion mitigation project be extended to the Canggu coast. These strategic measures, both in the transport and coastal protection sectors, are considered crucial for maintaining the sustainability of the tourism sector, which is the backbone of the region’s economy. “Badung Regency urgently needs infrastructure development so that it is not abandoned by tourists,” Adi Arnawa stressed, highlighting the importance of synergy between the central and regional governments in sustainable development.
