Badung Regency Prepares Giant 30,000 Litre per Second Pump to Tackle Kuta Flooding
The Badung Regency Government (Pemkab Badung) is preparing a strategy to tackle flooding in the Kuta area and its surroundings. One of the urgent measures taken is readying a giant water pump at the mouth of Tukad Mati.
Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa said the pump is designed with a capacity of up to 30,000 litres per second. Its construction forms part of a flood-handling programme that also includes river normalisation and drainage system rehabilitation.
“Flood handling in the Dewi Sri, Kunti and surrounding areas is being carried out through the normalisation of Tukad Mati along 7 kilometres as well as drainage channel rehabilitation. We are also preparing a flood-control pump at the mouth of Tukad Mati with a capacity of 30,000 litres per second,” said Adi Arnawa during the government’s response to the draft regional regulation on the accountability of the 2025 APBD at the Badung DPRD on Tuesday (21/7/2026).
The flood-control efforts include widening the river channel and improving road drainage systems at vulnerable points. Pemkab Badung claims the infrastructure work is focused on securing residential areas and tourist destinations.
“This step is important to improve the quality of public infrastructure in tourist areas and residential neighbourhoods. We are also prioritising the repair and improvement of new road networks in South Kuta, Kuta and North Kuta districts,” Adi asserted.
Beyond flood management, Pemkab Badung continues to tidy up the aesthetics of tourist areas, clearing rubbish and tangled cables. The work involves moving utility networks underground and renting out special heavy equipment in beach areas.
“For area management, we are applying a beautification concept by burying utility cables along several road sections and landscaping shade parks. As for beach waste, we have allocated a budget for renting transport equipment so clean-up can be swift,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pemkab Badung is intensifying the enforcement of public order issues in busy centres. This firm measure is taken through joint patrols to safeguard the comfort of tourists and local residents.
“The handling of social problems such as vagrants, ‘silver people’ and illegal ride-hailing transport has been addressed through routine raids at road junctions. Yustisi operations and joint patrols with the TNI and police are held periodically, including coordination with the Bali Provincial Government on app-based transport regulations,” Adi added.
The resolution of these various public service issues is further supported by follow-up on the results of regional financial audit evaluations. Pemkab Badung noted that most recommendations from the BPK RI audit have been completed according to target.
“We are committed to resolving every note and recommendation given by BPK RI on the regional government financial reports. From the second semester audit of 2025, we have completed 1,376 recommendations, or around 96.83 per cent,” he concluded.
