The Badung Regency Government has added a new route to the West Ring Road project that leads directly to Udayana University. This step was taken as a strategy to break up traffic flow concentration and prevent vehicle build-up in the Jimbaran Kali Junction area, South Kuta District. “There is an additional route; from what was originally access from Jimbaran to Uluwatu, we are adding another towards Unud. This is so that it does not create centralisation at the Kali Junction ring later,” said Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa on Monday. A consequence of the new route addition, Adi said, is that the physical completion target for the West Ring Road project is projected to be delayed. Nevertheless, the Badung Regency Government has confirmed that work on this strategic project continues in line with the dynamics of land acquisition in the field. “What is clear is that for 2026, the Canggu and Uluwatu routes are targeted for completion by the end of 2026. For the West Ring Road, it is possible it will extend to 2027 because there happens to be an additional route,” Adi Arnawa continued. This road infrastructure development is designed to support comfortable accessibility for the tourism sector in Bali, particularly in Badung. The Badung Regency Government also expressed appreciation for the strong commitment and support from the communities affected by the land acquisition. “I must express my gratitude because, from this programme, I have seen firsthand several community houses that have been given compensation. It turns out they did not object; they have been dismantled,” Adi Arnawa explained. On the other hand, the Badung Regency Government is prioritising the acceleration of work on two other main tourism road sections, namely the Berawa to Umalas route in North Kuta and Uluwatu in South Kuta. The regency government is targeting both projects to be fully completed by the end of 2026. “This is currently in progress. The West Ring Road, the Uluwatu access road to Labuhan Sait, to Melasti, as well as from Canggu, Berawa, and several other roads that we consider strategic and have already commenced. They are now in process,” said the former Badung Regional Secretary. He acknowledged that this infrastructure work requires time and stages that are not instant, from financing to on-site arrangement. Adi Arnawa asked all parties to continue supporting the project for the future benefit of Badung’s transport management.
