The Badung Regency Government (Pemkab Badung) is refining the scheme for managing organic waste at the household level. This follows the policy to stop sending organic waste to the Suwung landfill starting 1 April 2026. “76.2 percent have already been targeted by regional apparatus and educated on upstream waste separation. The rest are being continuously pursued to ensure this waste handling is properly separated from households,” said Badung Regent, I Wayan Adi Arnawa, on Friday (27/3/2026). Adi Arnawa explained that the organic waste management scheme is directed through a shredding process before being distributed to several processing points. Several locations prepared as composting centres for the shredded organic waste are spread across central to southern Badung. “Organic waste must be shredded, then it will be taken to several places to be turned into compost. I have ordered the sub-district heads to map areas that can be directed to accommodate this organic waste,” added the PDIP politician. Adi emphasised that the Environment and Cleanliness Service (DLHK) and private waste transporters are required to follow the new separation pattern. Pemkab Badung is also mapping 19 areas that do not yet have Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS3R) facilities. “The private sector also follows this pattern and we have contacted them. They are also asking about the process which indeed requires the waste to be shredded. Our hope is that the processed organic waste in Badung is only distributed to the northern areas for agricultural needs,” he stressed. Adi emphasised the importance of socialisation regarding source-based waste separation to the community. This includes preparing waste management infrastructure such as modern composting pits. “Along with the mapping and socialisation of waste separation, we are also asking DLHK to prepare waste management infrastructure at the household level. Starting from modern composting pits, composter bins, or bag composters,” he concluded.
