Badung Police Uncover Three Foreign Nationals as Suspects in Obscene Video Case
Badung, Bali — The Criminal Investigation Unit of Badung Police in Bali has uncovered three foreign nationals suspected of involvement in producing obscene content at a villa in the Pererenan area, Mengwi District, Badung.
Badung Police Chief Senior Commissioner Joseph Edward Purba announced at a press conference in Badung, Bali on Tuesday that the three detained foreign nationals are: a 23-year-old French female adult content creator with initials MMJL, a 24-year-old Italian male NBS, and a 26-year-old French male ERB.
They were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Badung Police in coordination with Ngurah Rai Immigration Office on Saturday, 14 March.
According to the police chief, MMJL and NBS were apprehended at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport after investigators coordinated with Ngurah Rai Immigration Office regarding the suspects’ whereabouts as they attempted to flee to Thailand. “Two suspects were prevented from leaving Bali and were secured. Meanwhile, suspect ERB was arrested at a villa in Canggu, North Kuta, on Monday, 16 March,” Purba stated.
Purba explained that the case investigation began when the Criminal Investigation Unit identified pornographic videos circulating widely on social media. Police conducted profiling of the video footage on Friday, 13 March at approximately 6.30 p.m. to trace the source of production.
From this investigation, police discovered evidence that the video was recorded in the Badung area. Investigators then questioned an online motorcycle taxi driver who had previously created content with suspect MMJL. Based on the witness’s statement, investigators successfully identified the suspects and located the video production site at a villa in Pererenan, Mengwi, Badung on Sunday, 8 March at approximately 2.40 p.m. local time.
According to the police chief’s statement, MMJL initially met NBS at an entertainment venue in North Kuta, Badung. MMJL then proposed to NBS that they produce an obscene video together. “The video was subsequently distributed by the third suspect ERB, who is MMJL’s manager, on the Only Fans and X platforms,” the police chief disclosed.
According to their confessions, the suspects’ motive for creating the video was to use a motorcycle taxi jacket to make it go viral quickly on social media and the platforms used to distribute the video. They obtained the jacket by purchasing it from a shop for IDR 300,000.
From the arrest of the suspects, officers secured several pieces of evidence including three iPhone units, one DJI Osmo camera, one MacBook Air unit, and one motorcycle taxi vest used in the content production.
The suspects are charged under Article 407 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Indonesian Criminal Code, which carries a sentence ranging from a minimum of six months to a maximum of ten years imprisonment. Additionally, the suspects face charges under Article 45 paragraph (1) of Law Number 19 of 2016 on Information Technology, which carries a sentence of up to six years imprisonment.
Gde Oki Rizky Aryadhika Heris, Head of the Examination Area Division of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, stated that MMJL and NBS were secured following information received at Immigration regarding the two suspects’ involvement in the alleged production of obscene content that went viral on social media.
He revealed that on 11 March, based on public information regarding the viral content, the individuals were immediately flagged by immigration authorities as subjects of interest. When the suspects planned to depart on 13 March to Thailand, immigration personnel conducted security measures at the airport. “Initial findings indicate that MMJL entered Indonesia on 21 February using a visa on arrival intended for tourism purposes,” he concluded.
The alleged obscene content production case has also implicated a motorcycle taxi driver with initials MR (35) from Medan, North Sumatra.
When interviewed separately, MR disclosed that he initially met suspect MMJL on the roadside near Batu Bolong area around February. Following that meeting, they were invited to create light content together, such as casual conversations. “We met twice and created content twice. One instance was conducted at the villa (crime scene), but it was merely casual conversation,” he stated.
However, after an obscene video went viral on social media and one of the perpetrators was identified as MMJL, MR became implicated due to his previous involvement in creating ordinary content with suspect MMJL. He revealed that the public mistakenly believed MR was the person wearing the motorcycle taxi jacket in the video with MMJL. This accusation was subsequently disproven after police arrested the actual suspects.
“It has now been proven that the person in that video is not me,” he concluded.
