Badung Allocates Rp 14 Billion to Prevent Flooding by Reorganising Water Channels in North Kuta
The Badung Regency Government (Pemkab) has prepared a budget of Rp 14 billion for reorganising water channels in the North Kuta area. The irrigation network improvement project is expected to provide a solution to the standing water that frequently occurs during heavy rain.
“We must move quickly to handle this flood control, it must be integrated through the repair of existing channels,” said the Head of the Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR), I Nyoman R Karyasa, on Sunday (21/6/2026).
“We will immediately reorganise the drainage network, including widening channel cross-sections at points that have long been flood-prone locations. The targets are along Jalan Kerobokan, Jalan Basangkasa, and Jalan Umalas,” he added.
Karyasa explained that the project, which requires a budget of more than Rp 14 billion, includes increasing channel capacity. This is expected to reduce the frequency of standing water so that the activities of residents and road users in the tourist area are no longer disrupted by flooding.
According to Karyasa, the water channel repairs need to be carried out immediately because the drainage capacity can no longer accommodate water overflow during high rainfall.
The Badung PUPR Agency identified that flooding in the North Kuta area is triggered by sedimentation at the bottom of channels and the narrowing of cross-sections due to massive development. Currently, the flood control project is still in the tender stage and is targeted for completion in the near future.
“This area is indeed a main route connected to several strategic areas in North Kuta. The problem becomes more pronounced during the rainy season, with standing water invariably appearing at certain points on road sections and even in residential areas. This needs to be handled quickly,” Karyasa stated.
