Badminton medalists to get bonus
JAKARTA (JP): The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) will present cash bonuses totaling Rp 512.5 million (US$60,300) on Friday to medal-winning players from the 13th Asian Games last December.
PBSI chairman Subagyo Hadisiswoyo will officiate at the presentation at the national badminton center in Cipayung, East Jakarta.
At the Games in Bangkok, Indonesia won two golds in the men's team event and men's doubles (Ricky Subagja and Rexy Mainaky), two silvers from the women's duo of Elysa Nathanael and Deyana Lomban and men's singles Hendrawan, and two bronzes from the women's team and mixed doubles pairing of Minarti Timur and Tri Kusherjanto.
Each member of the men's team will receive Rp 20 million. Ricky and Rexy will be awarded an additional Rp 40 million each for the men's doubles gold.
Hendrawan will earn Rp 30 million, while Deyana and Elysa will share Rp 40 million.
The women's team of eight, including Deyana and Elysa, will be granted Rp 10 million. Minarti and Tri will also pocket an additional Rp 15 million each for their bronze.
PBSI has also allocated Rp 92.5 million in cash for 10 national team coaches and officials for the Games. Their shares range from Rp 2.5 million to Rp 10 million.
The badminton medalists previously received cash bonuses from the state minister of youth affairs and sports office and insurance policies from the National Sports Council.
"I thank PBSI for providing extra bonuses. They will be very meaningful in such a difficult time," Hendrawan said, referring to the country's economic troubles and political uncertainty. (yan)
