Backlog Remains High, Perumnas Begins Construction of Vertical Housing

State-owned housing developer Perumnas has officially begun construction of the Samesta Alonia Jakarta subsidised urban vertical housing project. The project is intended to expand access to decent and affordable housing for low-income communities (MBR), while supporting the government’s efforts to address the national housing backlog.

Minister of National Development Planning Rachmat Pambudy stated that the development of subsidised housing needs to be continuously accelerated and expanded, particularly in urban areas. He noted that housing located close to centres of economic activity and public services can broaden MBR access to decent and affordable living spaces. ‘I am moved to see the enthusiasm of our brothers and sisters, our teachers who apparently do not yet own a home, or if they do, it is far from where they teach. I think this is the spirit of Perum Perumnas to accelerate and further increase home construction,’ Rachmat said in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Fahri Hamzah said the development of Samesta Alonia Jakarta marks a momentum for the revival of Perumnas as a developer of public housing, while supporting the government’s efforts to overcome the national housing backlog. Fahri stated that Perumnas has a long track record spanning more than five decades in providing housing for the community. ‘This is not a groundbreaking, but a marker of Perumnas’ return as a major player in public housing,’ Fahri said.

Acting President Director of Perum Perumnas Imelda Alini Pohan explained that the development of Samesta Alonia Jakarta is the result of synergy among various stakeholders in supporting the three million homes programme. Imelda mentioned that Perumnas is collaborating with the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency, the Jakarta Provincial Government, and Danantara to accelerate the construction of housing that meets community needs. ‘Perumnas is also strengthening collaboration with various Himbara banks to provide financing facilities through the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (KPR FLPP),’ Imelda said.

With this synergy, Imelda continued, low-income communities can obtain easier access to financing to own their first home with a simpler and more affordable scheme. Imelda explained that Samesta Alonia Jakarta has also been designated as one of the national strategic projects in the housing sector, expected to act as a catalyst in accelerating the provision of decent housing in urban areas. ‘This project serves as an example of how cross-agency collaboration can optimise resources and deliver real solutions to the challenges of housing provision in major cities,’ Imelda added.

Through the development of Samesta Alonia Jakarta, Imelda said Perumnas reaffirms its commitment to continuously providing decent, quality, and affordable subsidised housing for the Indonesian people. By strengthening synergy with the government, ministries and agencies, the banking sector, and all relevant stakeholders, Perumnas is optimistic it can reinforce its role in supporting the success of the three million homes programme. ‘Going forward, strong collaboration will continue to be the foundation for Perumnas in delivering sustainable housing solutions and providing tangible benefits for the Indonesian people,’ Imelda concluded.
