Back to work on Saturdays

PADANG, West Sumatra: The West Sumatra provincial administration has decided that a five-day working week is not more efficient than six-day week, and not in the interest of its employees.

Governor Hasan Basri Durin said the trial run of the five-day working week will be stopped. Beginning in April, all employees must report to work on Saturdays, Antara reported.

Governor Hasan said evaluation of the seven-month trial showed that the five-day working week did not improve the administration's efficiency .

The shorter week is compensated by longer working hours during the five days. The central administration in Jakarta and some provincial administrations in Java have adopted the five-day week. (emb)
