Back to local names
From Kompas
The use of foreign names for real estate complexes was
severely criticized by linguists and those concerned about the
national language around 1995, and as a result developers changed
a lot of English names to Indonesian.
In consequence, such names as Cikarang City, Lippo City, Citra
City, BSD City, Raffles Hills and Sentul Hills became Lippo
Cikarang, Lippo Karawaci, Citra Raya, BSD Kota Mandiri, Bukit
Raffles and Bukit Sentul.
After almost a decade, the name BSD City is now appearing
again in newspaper ads and TV commercials. As an Indonesian
citizen, I am disappointed by this.
Therefore, I would like to appeal to those in the real estate
business and property developers to once again use Indonesian for
when naming their products.
