Baby found dead at garbage dump

JAKARTA (JP): A one-day-old baby girl was found dead at a garbage dump in Kampung Pondok Ungu, in Medan Satria district, Bekasi, on Thursday afternoon.

The body of the infant was found wrapped in a yellow baby's blanket.

An officer from the local Kranji Police subprecinct said that a resident found the body when she was dumping her household trash.

The baby was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta for a postmortem examination.

A member of the morgue staff, Syafe'i, quoted a police report as saying that the baby had been murdered.

But Syafe'i said he had not found any signs of physical violence.

"It looks as though whoever dumped the dead baby had first bathed it," he said. "It was clean and looked healthy." (04)
