Baby Boy Wrapped in Hijab Found Alive Under Banana Tree in West Lombok

Residents of Geripak Hamlet, Gelangsar Village, Gunungsari District, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), were shocked by the discovery of a baby boy. The infant was found alive under a banana tree. Gunungsari Police Chief, Iptu Ida Bagus Adnyana Putra, stated that the discovery began when a resident heard crying after the dawn prayer. The witness then searched for the source of the sound and found a living baby boy under a banana tree. When found, the baby was wrapped in a brown hijab with his umbilical cord already cut. His head was still damp with traces of amniotic fluid, and there were bloodstains on both thighs. The discovery was reported to the authorities. Police immediately took the baby to the Penimbung Community Health Centre for examination. The medical examination results showed the baby weighed 2.3 kg, with a body length of 50 centimetres, a head circumference of 31 centimetres, a chest circumference of 32 centimetres, an arm circumference of 10 centimetres, and a blood oxygen level of 95 per cent. Police are currently investigating the case to uncover the perpetrator. ‘We have secured the location, coordinated with the West Lombok UPT PPA, health workers, and the village government. The investigation is ongoing to reveal the perpetrator and the motive for this child abandonment,’ said Adnyana.
