Baby boy found outside a school in Kebayoran Baru, less than a week old

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A baby boy was found alive in front of Tarakanita I Elementary School, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Police suspect the infant was deliberately abandoned at the location. Public Relations Head of the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Murodih, said the suspicion arose after officers found a number of baby items left with the infant. “Indeed, when looking at the crime scene, the baby was deliberately placed there. Because the baby’s belongings were prepared as well,” Murodih said when speaking to reporters in Pesanggrahan on Thursday, 5 March 2026. “There, it is evident that a baby who is estimated to be under seven days old was found,” he added. The baby was first found by a teacher named Maryono (44) who arrived at the school around 04:00 WIB. As he attempted to enter the school compound, Maryono saw suspicious items near the garden, not far from the school gate. He then called security to check two paper bags in the area. “After he tried to enter the gate, there were suspicious items beside the gate,” Murodih said. Upon inspecting, inside one of the paper bags they found a baby boy wrapped in a floral-patterned cloth. The baby was subsequently taken to Kebayoran Baru Health Centre for a health check. After that, handling of the case was continued by the South Jakarta Social Service Office. Also found in the bag were baby supplies, such as baby formula in a red carton, wet wipes, blue gloves, and a slip of paper. The letter stated that the baby had been named with the initials AR and was born on Monday (2 March 2026).
