Baby Abandoned by Older Sister in Pasar Minggu Now in Care at Cipayung Baby Home
South Jakarta’s social services chief Bernard Tambunan said the baby girl was taken to the infant home after her condition was deemed to have improved. Earlier, she had undergone intensive care at the Pasar Minggu Health Centre because she appeared jaundiced when first found. ‘Because the baby is slightly yellow and is now healthy,’ he said. Tambunan added that members of the public interested in adopting the baby girl can process the adoption directly through the shelter. ‘If adopting directly, proceed to the shelter where the procedures are in place; of course it will also involve a court hearing, as there are many stages,’ Bernard said.
Earlier reports said a baby was found inside a black shopping bag placed on a nasi uduk cart at the end of a narrow alley on Jalan Pejaten Raya, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. The baby was found wearing blue clothing and a blue baby blanket. The crying baby was first heard by a resident named Dinda (20), who was on the second floor of her house. She then called her mother to secure the baby inside the house before reporting the incident to authorities. ‘The witness checked inside the shopping bag and saw a baby girl lying on her side, wearing a blue bear-patterned outfit and wrapped in a baby blanket,’ said Pasar Minggu Police Chief Commissioner Anggiat Sinambela in his statement on Tuesday.
Inside the bag were various baby items, such as boxed red-packaged baby formula, wet wipes, and blue gloves. There was also a small sheet of paper containing information about the baby’s identity. The note stated that the baby girl had been named with the initials AR and was born on Monday, 2 March 2026. The letter is believed to have been written by the baby’s older sibling, initials Z (12). In the message, she stated that their mother died during childbirth.
‘Assalamualaikum, Sir/Madam who found my younger sister, I, Z, would like to ask you to take care of my younger sister because our mother died during childbirth; please treat her as your own child, because I will not be able to find or visit her again, I do not want her future to be like mine. Thank you,’ the note reads.
