Babel Provincial Government: 99.24 Percent of Residents Registered for JKN
The Provincial Government of the Bangka Belitung Islands has announced that 99.24 percent of the region’s total population is now registered in the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme, as part of efforts to improve public health quality. As of 1 July 2026, 1,558,117 residents out of a total population of 1,570,074 spread across Pangkalpinang City and the regencies of Bangka, West Bangka, Central Bangka, South Bangka, Belitung, and East Belitung are enrolled in the programme. This leaves only 11,957 individuals, or 0.76 percent of the population, yet to be registered.
Despite the high registration rate, active JKN participation in the province reached 1,324,180 people, or 84.34 percent of total registered members. Active membership rates vary by region, with Belitung Regency leading at 91.80 percent, followed by East Belitung at 90.37 percent, Pangkalpinang at 83.79 percent, Bangka at 83.13 percent, South Bangka at 82.45 percent, Central Bangka at 82.23 percent, and West Bangka at 81.64 percent. Assistant for General Administration Elius Gani noted that while active participation is quite good, the provincial government is committed to further increasing these figures.
Elius explained that the lower active participation rate compared to total registration is attributed to several factors, including participants failing to pay their BPJS Kesehatan premiums, unreported deaths by family members, and newborns not being enrolled in the programme. The coordination meeting held in Pangkalpinang serves as a step by the provincial government, through the Babel Health Office, to optimise the implementation of Universal Health Coverage and ensure all residents receive better health insurance and services.
