Babeh Haikal Inspects Kramat Jati Market, Urges Traders to Obtain Halal Certification
The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH), Babeh Haikal, inspected Kramat Jati Market in East Jakarta this afternoon. He aimed to ensure that all traders and butchers at the market possess halal certifications.
Observations at the location on Sunday (29/3/2026) showed Babeh Haikal inspecting the restaurants inside Kramat Jati Market. He held a dialogue with traders, inquiring whether they already had halal certifications.
“Next Monday, we’ll come here and teach you how to obtain the halal certificate. Once it’s done, it should be displayed here,” said Babeh Haikal while conversing with one of the traders.
Subsequently, Babeh Haikal will send a team to directly monitor the butchers slaughtering animals. He wants the butchers at the market to perform slaughtering according to proper and halal methods.
“If tomorrow morning, a team will come to check again. And specifically for the slaughterers here, we have conducted on-the-spot training,” he explained.
“So on-the-spot training is to explain that the cutting should be done with ‘Bismillah’, paying attention to hygiene, and considering the certification. They have a certificate called Juleha, which is for Halal Slaughterers,” he added.
He further mentioned that at the beginning of 2026, BPJPH had already conducted halal slaughter training for butchers at Animal Slaughterhouses or those in markets. He stated that the key aspect of the training is to ensure the halal slaughtering process.
“So in January and February, we trained them. We invited all animal and poultry cutters in the markets, we trained and educated them. The important thing is that it’s halal,” he explained.
Furthermore, Babeh Haikal stated that these efforts are intended to convince the House of Representatives that slaughter facilities can be under BPJPH. Thus, the resulting products are halal and safe for the Muslim community.
“This is part of our efforts to convince the Indonesian House of Representatives, especially Commission VIII, that RPH, RPU, animal slaughter places, and poultry slaughter places are fully under BPJPH as the authority for granting halal certification,” he said.
