The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hassan, also known as Babe Haikal, has asserted that halal certification benefits all parties, including the public, traders, and the wider business community. According to him, mandatory halal certification is not merely a matter of regulatory compliance.

It is a strategic step that provides legal certainty and a sense of security for both consumers and business actors. Babe Haikal stated that amidst the rapid development of the global market, consumers require guarantees regarding the halal status of the products they consume daily.

“Mandatory halal certification is here to provide certainty. For consumers, this is protection and assurance that the products purchased are safe and comply with Sharia. Meanwhile, for business actors, the halal label serves as a form of transparency and an incentive to increase public trust,” he said in a press release in Jakarta on Friday (25/09/2026).

Babe Haikal’s explanation pertains to the second phase of the mandatory halal implementation, starting from 17 October 2026, for food, beverages, slaughter products, and slaughtering services from MSMEs. Additionally, in October 20formed 2026, mandatory halal certification will also apply to imported products in the categories of food, beverages, slaughter products, and slaughtering services.
