Ba'asyir's case
Ba'asyir's case
Cleric Abu Bakar Ba'asyir's case is a litmus test for both the police and the legal system.
It is apparent that (Muslim) people think that the law enforcers have been overly arrogant in the arrest and detention of Ba'asyir, suspected of various crimes related to terrorism.
The police say they have sufficient legal cause to arrest Ba'asyir, on the other hand, the Constitution also guarantees that Ba'asyir has the right to refuse the arrest, if it (the arrest) is against the law.
Ba'asyir may be or may be not guilty and the police may or may not be right.
Ba'asyir's resistance could be based on his suspicion that the police have orchestrated his arrest, similar to the New Order regime's actions against him.
Let the legal process take place and we will see who is guilty. With his arrest it's time for Ba'asyir to prove that he is not guilty.
The supremacy of the law is at stake (again) in Ba'asyir's case.
