B50 ushers in a new chapter for the national clean energy sector
Starting 1 July 2026, the government will mandate the use of a new alternative fuel in the country. The fuel is B50 biodiesel, formulated with a blend of 50 percent diesel and 50 percent palm oil. From an environmental perspective, B50 is expected to reduce air pollution because its sulphur content is lower than that of pure diesel. From a technical standpoint, B50 is claimed to improve engine lubrication properties, thereby extending the lifespan of diesel engines. From an economic perspective, B50 is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s agribusiness sector, particularly palm oil, create new jobs, and bolster national energy security.
