B50 Biodiesel to be Fully Available at All Pertamina Petrol Stations by September 2026
Pertamina Patra Niaga is targeting the distribution of diesel fuel blended with 50 per cent palm oil-based biodiesel (B50) at all its petrol stations by September 2026. Since the initial rollout on 1 July 2026, approximately 82 per cent of Pertamina’s filling stations have already begun dispensing B50.
Wakil Direktur Utama Pertamina Patra Niaga Taufik Aditiyawarman stated that the government has provided a three-month transition period, primarily to allow existing B40 stocks to be depleted before the complete switch to B50. He noted that achieving full nationwide availability by September remains a significant challenge.
The mandatory B50 programme was officially launched by President Prabowo Subianto as part of a strategic effort to reduce Indonesia’s dependence on imported fuel, particularly diesel, and to enhance the value of the nation’s natural resources while safeguarding economic stability and energy sovereignty. The launch event was attended by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri, among other cabinet members.
In his remarks, President Prabowo declared that Indonesia has become the first country in the world to implement a mandatory B50 biodiesel programme. He described the milestone as proof of the nation’s ability to harness its own natural wealth for the benefit of its people, emphasising that a country’s survival depends on its capacity to produce its own food, secure its own energy sources, and manage its own water resources. He reiterated his long-standing commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in food and energy, a goal he has championed since before his presidency.
