49 Illegal workers at refugee camps in Kalimantan die: At least
49 Indonesian refugees -- who were recently kicked out of
Malaysia for a number of crimes -- including 19 from East Nusa
Tenggara province, have died of respiratory diseases, diarrhea,
dysentery, and stress in crammed camps in Nunukan, East
Kalimantan. Social workers said Friday that some 500 refugees
were still sick in the reportedly squalid camps. "The situation
in the refugee camps continues to deteriorate. The workers eat
only twice a day and many of them are suffering from various
diseases," social worker Viktor Ola was quoted by Antara as
saying. There are currently around 25,000 worker refugees in
Nunukan. --Antara
