1959: Construction of the hotel begins under supervision of founding president Sukarno. The building is designed by American architect Abel Sorensen. It has 14 floors and 400 rooms.
Aug. 5, 1962: The hotel is officially opened.
Aug. 24 - Sept. 4, 1962: The hotel accommodates 1,527 participants to the fourth Asian Games from 18 countries.
1974: The hotel is renovated under an order from President Soeharto. The Bali wing, 231 rooms and the canopy for the lobby are added.
Feb. 13, 2004: PT Cipta Karya Bumi Indah (CKBI), a subsidiary of cigarette giant Djarum group, is named the new operator of state- owned Hotel Indonesia and adjacent Hotel Inna Wisata under a 30- year build-operate-transfer scheme with the government.
April 15, 2004: Hotel ceases to take any more bookings.
April 30, 2004: Hotel is fully closed for renovation.
