AZKO Strengthens Sustainable Business through Sustainability Ambitions 2030
Sustainability for PT Aspirasi Hidup Indonesia Tbk (AHI) (ACES) through AZKO is not only realised through social and environmental activities but is also part of the Company’s efforts to build a responsible business and create a positive impact on society. This commitment is outlined in the Sustainability Ambitions 2030, which covers three main pillars: People, Environment, and Business, implemented by strengthening Good Corporate Governance (GCG) practices.
One form of implementation is seen through various initiatives that encourage the public to adopt a more environmentally responsible lifestyle. Through the ‘Berbagi Cahaya’ (Sharing Light) and ‘BISA BAIK’ (Together for Electronic Waste) programmes, AZKO strives to provide benefits that are felt not only by the community but also contribute to environmental preservation.
AZKO Berbagi Cahaya is an initiative that provides energy-efficient LED lamp donations to encourage energy efficiency, emission reduction, and expand public access to more energy-efficient lighting. This programme has been running since 2017 and has reached 30 cities and 50 public facilities, such as schools, places of worship, cultural centres, and museums, distributing more than 37,000 energy-efficient LED lamps. This initiative will continue until 2030 in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By 2030, the distribution of AZKO’s energy-efficient LED lamps is targeted to reach 30,000 homes, 300 schools, and 300 public facilities in 80 cities across Indonesia. From an environmental perspective, this programme is expected to reduce electricity consumption by approximately 73,800,000 kWh and potentially avoid around 64,206 tonnes of CO2 emissions throughout the lifespan of the lamps.
From a social perspective, the programme helps increase access to energy-efficient lighting for the community, improving quality of life and comfort through better lighting, and creating a positive multiplier effect for the environment and the community. The programme also offers potential electricity cost savings for beneficiaries.
Teresa Wibowo, Director of PT Aspirasi Hidseb Indonesia Tbk, stated that AZKO is striving to encourage a more responsible energy-saving lifestyle while generating a positive environmental impact for a more sustainable future for Indonesia.
“This is in line with the Sustainability Ambitions 2030 that we have formulated, covering ESG aspects, and serves as AZKO’s way of building a sustainable, environmentally friendly business that impacts society,” she said.
In addition to promoting energy efficiency, AZKO also presents BISA BAIK as an effort to increase awareness and responsible electronic waste management practices. Through this programme, AZKO provides drop boxes in 24 stores spread across 17 cities, including Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, Semarang, Bogor, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Makassar, Balikpapan, and other major cities, to collect and manage various types of electronic waste (e-waste) responsibly.
The BISA BAIK programme is part of the Environment pillar within the Sustainability Ambitions 2030, specifically as an effort to minimise waste ending up in landfills through effective waste management.
The commitment to supporting a responsible lifestyle is also applied through AZKO’s product portfolio. Currently, more than 10% of AZKO’s product collection includes categories that support energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, and the use of more environmentally friendly raw materials. Moving forward, this proportion is targeted to increase to 22% as part of the Sustainability Ambitions 2030.
One such portfolio is the AZKO Energy-Efficient LED Lamp powered by KRISBOW, which is also donated through the AZKO Berbagi Cahaya programme. This product is energy-efficiently labelled in accordance with Ministry of ESDM regulations, has a lifespan of up to 15,000 hours, and is equipped with eye comfort features and a replacement warranty during the warranty period. The product is also designed to produce optimal light with low electricity consumption.
Furthermore, AZKO also offers rechargeable batteries, battery chargers, battery testers, indoor hydroponic pots, smart composters, as well as water-efficient showers and toilets. Several products have also met globally recognised sustainability standards and certifications, such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), Ecolabel, Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), and Global Recycled Standard (GRS).
Thus, AZKO’s sustainability approach does not stop at social and environmental programmes but is also applied through products used by the community daily. This approach is part of the Company’s effort to connect sustainability with business activities while encouraging consumers to adopt a more responsible lifestyle.
From a governance perspective, these sustainability efforts are also strengthened through the application of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) principles in conducting business. This is reflected, among other things, in the Company’s MSCI ESG Rating, which has risen to the BBB level from its previous BB, while the ESG Risk Rating from Sustainalytics is recorded at 22.0, placing it in the medium risk category. This achievement is in line with the Company’s target to strengthen the implementation of GCG in accordance with the requirements of the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS).
Teresa Wibowo, Director of PT Aspirasi Hidup Indonesia Tbk, also stated that the Company’s sustainability steps are based on Good Corporate Governance (GCG) principles, “A good business must not only provide positive social and environmental impacts, but must also be…
