Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's Funeral Scheduled for Early July from Tehran to Mashhad

The funeral of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with members of his family, will take place in early July, according to an announcement by the funeral committee on Saturday (13/06/2026). In an announcement by the ‘Commemoration of the Bloodied Ascension of the Martyred Militant Imam’ Committee, the final farewell ceremonies for the general public will be held on 4–5 July at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosque in Tehran.

These dates coincide with 13–14 Tir on the Persian calendar, or 19–20 Muharram on the Hijri calendar.

The funeral procession is scheduled to take place in Tehran on 6 July, followed by a second procession in the holy city of Qom on 7 July, the committee stated.

The final series of funeral ceremonies will take place on 9 July in the holy city of Mashhad, coinciding with the night commemorating the passing of Imam Sajjad (AS), also known as Zayn al-Abidin, the fourth Imam in the Shia tradition and the great-grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The deceased leader will be buried in the Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine complex, the eighth Imam in the Shia tradition, located in Mashhad.

The funeral committee has invited all Iranian citizens, the global community that loves freedom, followers of Islamic teachings, and all interested parties to attend the series of ceremonies.
