AWG Opposes Permits Granted to Two Israel-Affiliated Companies
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The humanitarian organisation Aqsa Working Group (AWG) has opposed investment and operational permits granted by the Indonesian government to two companies affiliated with Israel.
The two companies are PT Ormat Geothermal Indonesia, which operates in North Maluku, and PT Volex Indonesia in the Riau Islands.
"The Aqsa Working Group (AWG) considers this move to be a policy that contradicts the fundamental principles of the constitution as well as the direction of Indonesia's foreign policy, which has consistently supported Palestinian independence," said AWG Presidium Chairman Muhammad Anshorullah in a press statement on Thursday (19/2).
AWG stated that granting permits to the two companies contradicts the political pledges of President Prabowo Subianto under Asta Cita, one of which refers to an economy that upholds humanitarian values.
The humanitarian organisation also emphasised that granting permits to Israel-affiliated entities could be interpreted as a hypocritical step: opposing Zionist Israeli occupation whilst facilitating their economy to strengthen the occupation of Palestine.
AWG said it strongly opposes any granting of operational permits to companies affiliated with Zionist Israel in Indonesia, as this contradicts anti-colonial principles, undermines the consistency of Indonesian diplomacy, and has the potential to weaken the nation's international credibility.
The organisation urged the government to immediately revoke and cancel all permits for the two companies, and to prioritise alternative investment partners with ethical and transparent track records and no links to humanitarian conflicts.
