Awards aim to boost local musicians

JAKARTA: Noted musician Dwiki Darmawan hoped the Indonesian Music Awards (AMI) could boost local musicians' appreciation in the future and also encouraged them to create better works.

"I really hope the AMI organizers are being fair in selecting the awards winners specially in the future," he said at the sidelines of the awards ceremony last week.

The husband of singer Ita Purnamasari said he joined the AMI's membership to enable him appraising candidates for the awards winners.

Dwiki, father to Mohammad Fernanda, also expressed his optimism that the awards would be staged much better and in a more professional way.

The music producer, composer and arranger has been dedicating his skills to the local music industry for a long time and he has been joining the jazz music group Krakatau Band Since 1985.

Dwiki, who won the Outstanding Keyboard Player award winner from Yamaha Light Music contest in Tokyo in 1985, is now running his Farabi music school. -- JP
