Awaiting the Work of the Polri Reform Commission: What Will Be Reported to Prabowo?
The Commission for Accelerating Polri Reform, chaired by Jimly Asshiddiqie, will soon conclude its work and report to President Prabowo Subianto. One of its primary recommendations is to push for revisions of various internal police regulations as a means of expediting institutional reform. ‘There are matters of a principled nature that require amending the law, as well as implementing regulations, and the need to revise internal regulations. About eight Perpol (Polri regulations) and 24 Perkap (Regulations of the Chief of Police) must be revised so that this can serve as a basis for sustained internal reform in the long term,’ Jimly said at the Presidential Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He noted that the recommendations reflect a synthesis of public aspirations and the commission’s internal studies. The document will be handed directly to President Prabowo as input for determining the direction of police reform going forward. The meeting between the President and the Commission is awaiting scheduling from the government. ‘The Secretary of State and the State Secretary’s Office will arrange it, and we are aiming to have it before Eid, as he is quite busy,’ Jimly added. He emphasised that no mandate is out of reach for the commission; however, there are strategic recommendations that require direct presidential decisions. ‘There are decisions we cannot make alone. We need to report first and receive guidance from him,’ he said.
