Awaiting Results of Investigation into Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Four soldiers from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) were involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS). This was revealed after the Military Police Centre (Puspom) of the TNI Headquarters received the handover of the suspects and announced it to the public on 18 March 2026 at 14:00 WIB. From the announcement, it was disclosed that Puspom TNI had detained four Bais TNI personnel with initials Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES, before they were transferred to the Jayakarta Military District Command (Pomdam Jaya). They come from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches of the TNI. However, two others are still in the examination process. Nevertheless, Puspom TNI has not yet revealed detailed roles, motives, or the complete chronology of the attack. Puspom TNI has assured that they are investigating the masterminds behind the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. After six days since the announcement of the involvement of the four Bais TNI members, Puspom TNI is apparently still examining these soldiers. “To date, the investigation process against the 4 personnel suspected of assaulting Mr AY is ongoing,” said the Head of TNI Information Centre (Kapuspen) TNI Major General Aulia, in his statement on Monday (23/3/2026). Thus, the TNI high-ranking officer asked the public to wait for the results of the ongoing investigation. “Please wait until the entire investigation process by Puspom TNI investigators is completed,” Aulia stated.
