JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The polemic over the transfer of detention status for former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has had long-lasting repercussions. In addition to attracting public scrutiny, the decision has led to two reports to the Supervisory Board (Dewas) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The KPK Supervisory Board is urged to promptly examine the KPK leadership and its staff to ensure there are no ethical violations in the detention transfer process.

Head of the Law and Investment Division of Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) Wana Alamsyah believes the Supervisory Board needs to act quickly to follow up on public complaints.

“ICW urges the Supervisory Board to conduct an examination of the KPK leadership and parties suspected of being involved in the transfer of YCQ’s (former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas) detention,” said Wana via text message on Sunday (29/3/2026).

“The Supervisory Board must act swiftly to follow up on public complaints so that suspicions of external interference can be revealed to the public,” he stated.

Yaqut was previously detained at the KPK Detention Centre since 12 March 2026 after being named a suspect in the alleged corruption case involving the 2023–2024 Hajj quota.

However, his detention status was changed to house arrest on 19 March 2026, after being held at the KPK Detention Centre since 12 March 2026 following his designation as a suspect.

The transfer was made at the request of the family and was only announced by the KPK on 21 March 2026, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

Upon arriving at the KPK’s Red and White Building on 24 March 2026, Yaqut claimed that the transfer to house arrest was his request.

He also expressed gratitude for being able to use the moment to pay respects to his mother during Eid al-Fitr.

“It was our request. Alhamdulillah, I could pay respects to my mother,” said Yaqut.

The scrutiny has continued into the formal realm with the submission of two reports to the KPK Supervisory Board.

The first report was submitted by Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
