AWAIR launches flights to Balikpapan, Medan

JAKARTA (JP): Newly established airline company PT AIRWAGON International (AWAIR) launched on Friday two domestic flights, from Jakarta to Balikpapan in East Kalimantan and Medan in North Sumatra.

The airline began operations on June 22 with two domestic routes, from Jakarta to Surabaya in East Java and Denpasar in Bali.

The airline holds a license to operate 27 domestic routes and 28 international routes. The picture (left) shows AWAIR president H. Rachmat Soebakir pointing to the airline's A-310-300 Airbus, leased from Singapore-based Region Air.

The airline is one seven new scheduled airlines, which will begin their operation in the country this year. The othre six airlines are Pelita Air Service, Indonesian Airlines Avi Patria, Lion Mentari Air (Lion Airlines), Bayu Indonesia Air, Rusmindo Internusa Air and Jatayu Air.(bkm)
