Avtur Prices Surge Nearly 70% Due to Escalating Unresolved War

Jakarta, VIVA – Domestic avtur prices experienced a sharp surge at the beginning of April 2026. The adjustment to aircraft fuel prices is linked to the thinning energy supply due to the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, which shows no signs of abating.

Before the Indonesian government raised avtur prices, jet fuel prices in the United States (US) had already skyrocketed by up to 95% since before the war in the Middle East. According to data from the Argus U.S. Jet Fuel Index published by Airlines for America, prices jumped from US$2.50 per gallon on 27 February 2026 to US$4.88 per gallon on 2 April 2026.

This amount is equivalent to nearly US$205 or approximately Rp 3,490,740 (estimated exchange rate of Rp 17,030 per US dollar) per barrel, as cited from The Hill on Monday, 6 April 2026. The impact has been an increase in air ticket fares and the cancellation of thousands of flights, as airlines must bear the surge in operational costs, placing heavy pressure on the aviation industry.

A similar situation has occurred in Indonesia. Based on Pertamina data on Monday, 6 April 2026, avtur prices at various airports have risen significantly, approaching 70%.

At Soekarno-Hatta Airport (CGK), previously the location with the cheapest price, it increased from Rp13,656.51 to Rp23,551.08 per litre. At Kualanamu Airport (KNO), the price rose from Rp14,925.33 per litre to Rp24,819.9 per litre.

Then at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP), the price increased from Rp14,880.81 to Rp24,775.38 per litre. At Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) and Ngurah Rai (DPS), prices surged from Rp15,448.44 to Rp25,343.01 per litre. Meanwhile, at Juanda Surabaya Airport (SUB), avtur prices rose from Rp15,236.97 to Rp25,131.54 per litre.

In eastern Indonesia regions, such as at Olilit Airport (SXK), Nabire Airport (NBX), Kao Airport (KAZ), Pattimura Airport (AMQ), and Dumatubin Airport (LUV), prices increased from Rp15,737.82 to Rp25,632.39 per litre. This is the highest avtur price in Indonesia.

Aviation logistics expert and owner of private jet company Elevate Jet, Greg Raiff, predicts that prices will continue to rise in the near future. This is because the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil distribution, remains disrupted due to the unresolved conflict.
