Avtur Price Surge Prompts Logistics Industry to Shift to Sea Routes
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Digital Economy Logistics Association (ALDEI) has officially forged a strategic partnership with PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Swiss-Belinn Cawang, Jakarta, on Tuesday (6/5/2026). This collaboration represents a strategic step to strengthen the national maritime logistics sector while maintaining stability in the logistics industry amid global economic dynamics.
The signing was conducted by ALDEI Chairman Imam Sedayu Pusponegoro and ASDP’s Director of Operations and Transformation, Rio Lasse. In his remarks, Imam stated that the partnership is a response to pressures on the logistics industry due to global geopolitical crises and rising air logistics costs, particularly triggered by the surge in avtur prices.
“The uncertain global conditions and the increase in avtur prices directly impact the rising costs of air logistics. This necessitates more stable and efficient alternatives through the optimisation of maritime logistics,” said Imam.
According to him, the recent rise in avtur prices has caused a surge in air freight tariffs, especially in the e-commerce and express delivery sectors.
In addition, businesses are beginning to shift distribution to sea routes to reduce operational costs amid pressures on logistics business margins.
Imam added that the increase in distribution costs also has the potential to affect consumer purchasing power, as it impacts retail prices.
Through this partnership, ALDEI and ASDP are committed to developing a more integrated, efficient, and sustainable sea logistics ecosystem.
The collaboration encompasses improvements in maritime logistics service quality, the development of sea-based logistics business models, education on utilising sea routes, and the joint preparation of strategic studies among stakeholders.
According to Imam, maritime logistics offers advantages in terms of capacity and cost efficiency, particularly for medium- to large-scale shipments.
“Indonesia is an archipelagic nation. Sea logistics should naturally become the backbone of national distribution. Through this collaboration, we aim to promote more optimal utilisation of sea routes, thereby reducing logistics costs and enabling more equitable goods distribution,” he said.
