Avoid Traffic Jams on Return Flow 24 March 2026, Ministry of Transportation Suggests WFA
The peak of the Lebaran 2026 return flow is expected to occur on Tuesday, 24 March 2026. To alleviate traffic density, the government has prepared several scenarios, including work from anywhere (WFA) policies.
The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation urges returnees to maximise WFA to reduce the peak return flow, predicted to start tomorrow.
“Jasa Marga predicts that on 24 March 2026, around 285,000 commuter vehicles will return to Jabodetabek via toll roads. We urge the public to utilise WFA time to return on 25, 26, or 27 March,” said Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan on Monday (23/3/2026).
“We hope private entrepreneurs will provide flexibility to their employees to utilise WFA in arranging their return times,” he added.
This is a concern given the high surge in vehicles during previous peak mudik periods. The goal is for road users to remain comfortable and avoid massive vehicle build-ups.
Based on Jasa Marga data, as of 22 March 2026 at 14:00 WIB, 39.9% of vehicles had returned to Jakarta from the total projection of 3.4 million vehicles. This data is calculated from four main toll gates: GT Cikupa, GT Ciawi, GT Cikatama, and GT Kalihurip Utama.
Additionally, returnees are asked not to rest on the road shoulder as it is dangerous and could cause accidents and congestion. The government hopes all stakeholders and the public can cooperate to create a safe, secure, and comfortable return flow.
