Avoid Traffic Congestion and Accidents: Heed Bogor Police Traffic Unit Tips When Traversing the Puncak Route
The Puncak tourist route in Bogor Regency remains a favoured destination for residents during the Lebaran holiday period. To ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce accident risks, the Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of Bogor Police District has shared several critical tips for motorists traversing the route.
Iptu Ardian Novianto Azhari, Head of Operations at Satlantas Polres Bogor, emphasised that the primary key to safe travel on this route is vehicle readiness. Given the extreme geographical terrain of Puncak, engine and braking conditions are non-negotiable.
“We urge the public to use vehicles that are in truly prime condition, because the Puncak route is characterised by predominant uphill stretches and frequent vehicle queuing,” stated Ardian. He explained that roadworthy vehicles risk breaking down amidst queues, which would result in prolonged traffic congestion that disadvantages other road users.
Beyond physical vehicle preparation, departure timing is also important. Satlantas Polres Bogor requested motorists to actively monitor traffic management information released by police, such as contraflow systems and one-way systems.
“Motorists can update traffic regulation patterns from Satlantas Polres Bogor to determine the right time to depart,” he said. The public can access periodic traffic flow updates through the official social media accounts of the Traffic Management Centre (TMC) Polres Bogor. By monitoring current information, motorists are expected to avoid being trapped in road closures or peak congestion.
Natural factors also warrant serious police attention. Iptu Ardian reminded that rainfall in the Puncak area is predicted to remain high throughout March. Slippery road conditions and limited visibility demand extra caution from drivers.
“Rainfall remains quite high so motorists must exercise caution, maintain safe distances, and refrain from parking vehicles near slopes or cliffs prone to landslides,” Ardian stated. He also stressed the importance of maintaining safe distances between vehicles to prevent rear-end collisions when sudden braking occurs on uphill or downhill stretches.
Finally, police have set up several service posts along the Puncak route. Motorists who feel fatigued or drowsy are strongly advised to rest briefly at these posts to restore their stamina before continuing their journey to their destination.
