Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Jakarta Metro Police will implement traffic diversions today, Wednesday (28 October 2026). The plan was announced in a post on its official Instagram account, @tmcpoldametro.

The measures follow demonstrations planned outside the DPR/MPR building. Posts on several social media accounts indicate that students and members of the public intend to take part in today’s action.

“Because of a demonstration on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, from 10am until it ends, in the areas around the DPR/MPR complex, Bundaran HI, Monas and Tugu Tani in Central Jakarta, traffic congestion and traffic-flow adjustments may occur,” the Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Management Centre (TMC) said in a statement quoted on Tuesday (28 October 2026).

“Members of the public are advised to avoid these areas, use alternative routes, plan their journeys and follow the instructions of officers on the ground,” it added.

The post said several roads were expected to become congested as demonstrators gathered. Traffic diversions would be introduced on a situational basis on some routes.

Potential locations for temporary traffic diversions include:

  • Gatot Subroto Road near the DPR/MPR complex;

  • MH Thamrin Road around Galunggung-Imam Bonjol; and

  • roads around the Monas area.

These roads were expected to become focal points for congestion, particularly around Bundaran HI and Jenderal Sudirman Street, Monas, Tugu Tani and the DPR/MPR complex.

“Members of the public are advised to avoid these areas, use alternative routes, plan their journeys and follow the instructions of officers on the ground,” the Jakarta Metro Police TMC reiterated.

Who is planning to take to the streets today?

In a post on its official Instagram account, the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) announced a demonstration under the hashtag #INDONESIASADAR, describing it as a continuation of the action held on 20 October 2026.

The post set out the chronology of the Indonesia Sadar campaign and listed five demands. These include declaring forest and land fires a national disaster, prosecuting corporations and restoring ecosystems.

BEM UI said the demonstration would begin at 2pm at Bundaran HI.
