Avoid Temptation of Cheap Coolant: It Can Cause Engine Overheating
Jakarta — Engine coolant plays a crucial role in maintaining stable engine temperatures during vehicle operation. The selection of coolant cannot be done arbitrarily. Car owners should not be tempted by cheap prices circulating in the market.
According to Fendy, Director of PT Autokooling Jaya Nusantara (AJN), the official distributor of Koyorad radiators in Indonesia, vehicle users should be more careful when purchasing coolant, as some low-quality products are sold at very cheap prices.
According to him, one sign of poor-quality coolant is being sold at a price far below the average market price. Suspiciously low prices should raise concerns because it is possible that the liquid does not have the correct composition to maintain engine cooling system performance.
In addition to price, users also need to pay attention to the contents of the coolant before purchasing it. Fendy recommends avoiding products that do not contain glycol.
“Avoid using coolant that does not contain glycol. The glycol content in radiators functions to increase the boiling point of coolant so it does not easily boil and evaporate,” he said.
If coolant boils easily, the engine’s cooling capacity will decrease and risks causing engine temperature to rise rapidly when the vehicle is in use, particularly during long journeys or heavy traffic conditions.
