Jakarta — Kampung Rambutan Terminal in East Jakarta has begun filling with Eid travellers ahead of the Lebaran holiday on Monday 9 March 2026. According to observations by Kompas.com on site, many passengers were waiting for buses in the terminal’s waiting area. Several travellers were seen carrying large suitcases and cardboard boxes destined for their home towns. The majority of passengers were bound for Sumatra.

“Yes, I want to go home early to Payakumbuh because I want to avoid traffic jams and ticket prices haven’t risen yet, since it’s still far from the peak Eid season,” said Ade when interviewed at Kampung Rambutan Terminal on Monday.

He explained that he regularly travels home early to his village and chooses to suspend his trading activities several days before Eid. “Yes, I’m used to doing this well in advance because of my trading business. Usually I take off about 10 days into Ramadan, at most 15 days. Tickets are still normal at Rp875,000 for sleeper class,” he said.

“Right now ticket prices haven’t gone up yet, they’re still stable and normal. So we can still afford to buy tickets. Prices can double as we get closer to Eid,” he added.

He explained this was his first time travelling home well ahead of Eid, as he no longer has work obligations to complete in Jakarta.

Similarly, Septalia chose to travel early to avoid long traffic jams, particularly as she was travelling with her young child. “The traffic is really long. Journeys can take over 24 hours. Usually with us, especially now with the toll roads, travel is faster if we set out early,” she said.

“My husband will follow later. Because he’s still working, he’ll leave around 17 March when he has a proper holiday,” she added.
