Avoid Debt, KDM Urges Community to Marry Simply
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi attended a mass simple wedding ceremony at the Pusaka KUA, Bojongsari Subdistrict, Depok City, on Tuesday (21/4/2026). Known familiarly as KDM, he also served as a witness for the five couples being married on the occasion. “Congratulations to the prospective husbands; never hurt your wives,” KDM stressed.
The couple Faza Febrianto and Dian Fauzi expressed delight and surprise that their wedding was attended by the West Java Governor in person. “We’re happy and didn’t expect our marriage to be witnessed by the governor and the mayor. It will be a beautiful memory for us,” said Faza, a resident of Pamulang. He admitted that all wedding needs had been covered. He only provided a mas kawin in the form of a two-gram ring. “The wedding money we’ve saved together will be put aside, hopefully for business capital,” he said.
Another couple, Sailan and Nurul Ramadhani, hoped this simple marriage would become a flagship programme continued by the governor. “It’s a blessing for us, proud to be witnessed by Mr KDM. Please continue the programme, Sir,” said Sailan, a cassava tape seller by profession. He gave a mas kawin of a one-gram gold ring.
On that occasion, each couple received gifts of washing machines and refrigerators from Bank bjb, while Governor KDM provided a two-day stay at a star-rated hotel. Bank bjb also provided savings for house down payments amounting to Rp 5 million, plus an additional Rp 2 million from the Depok mayor.
“The savings money must not be spent but used for house down payments; for those who already have houses, it’s for renovations. Those with uninhabitable houses will be renovated later, receiving assistance from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing worth Rp 20 million,” said KDM.
He emphasised that there is no need to force a wedding by going into debt. Especially since the people of West Java are recorded as the largest trapped in online loans. “After this marriage, they have no debt; instead, they get savings for buying a house,” he added.
Eco-Friendly KUA
KDM also inaugurated the Bojongsari KUA, which features a green building concept.
The Head of Bojongsari KUA in Depok City, Saiful Millah, thanked the Ministry of Religious Affairs and KDM for deliberately coming to witness the mass simple wedding as well as to see the condition of the KUA, which is quite representative as a location for marriage contracts. “Of course, we’re proud to provide a wedding location at the KUA office with an attractive green building concept so as not to disappoint the brides. Especially now that it’s visited directly by the governor,” he explained.
He said that since the KUA was renovated, public interest in marrying at the KUA has increased. The well-arranged rooms with a minimalist marriage contract area and bridal dais are not too disappointing for prospective brides. In addition, there is a yard and small hall that can also be used for simple reception activities. In March 2026 alone, according to him, around 35 percent of marriage applicants in his area chose to hold it at the KUA.
“Marriage is not momentary but a long event, so it would be better if the wedding costs are simple and the money is used for a better future. We’ve prepared a good wedding location at the KUA,” he said.
Jajang Ridwan, Deputy Head of Facilities and Infrastructure for KUAs under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, added that all KUAs will be revamped with an eco-friendly building concept and made as comfortable as possible for prospective brides holding marriage contracts at the KUA.
“This is the state’s way of being present to maximise wedding services at the KUA. Please utilise it for the community. The Ministry will continue to add green building KUAs, one of which will be the Excellent KUA built in Cianjur. We will provide the most complete services. There will be a good marriage contract room up to a hall for the reception,” Jajang stated.
