Aviation students run away from seniors

TANGERANG: Three freshmen at the Indonesian State Aviation School (STPI) at Flight Training Center (PLP) in Curug, Tangerang regency, ran away from the boarding school saying they could no longer stand being extorted by bullying seniors.

The three majored in aviation engineering.

They were reported to the police as missing on Friday. The school authorities said they were last seen on Wednesday evening.

One of three only left a note of apology to his parents, explaining that he could no longer stay at the school as some seniors persistently extorted the juniors, Curug Police chief Adj. Insp. Al Tobing said on Saturday.

STPI deputy rector Prawoto said the school had expelled four seniors for abusing their juniors in April.

"There should be no violence in this school ... we will expel more if necessary. I hope other students will help us find out what has been going on," he said. -- JP
