Autopsy Reveals Cause of Death of Mother and Child in Jombang
The cause of death of a mother and her daughter, SY (36) and NCQ (5), whose bodies were found in a former police dormitory in Dusun/Desa Rejoagung, Ploso, Jombang, has been revealed. The cause of death for both was drowning.
As reported by detikjatim on Thursday, 26 February 2026, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jombang Police, AKP Dimas Robin Alexander, explained that the autopsy results indicated that SY and NCQ died between 48 and 100 hours, or approximately 2 to 5 days, before their bodies were found. In addition, no signs of blunt or sharp force trauma were found on the bodies of the two victims.
“The conclusion of the forensic doctor is that the deaths were caused by drowning due to inhaling smoke and the presence of burns on the skin. They died at the scene (the former police dormitory) due to drowning. They were burned while still alive,” he said to reporters at the Jombang Police Headquarters, Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim, on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
Furthermore, Dimas added, NCQ had blistered wounds on her cheek. Meanwhile, SY’s throat and internal organs showed damage. According to the forensic doctor, all of this was caused by exposure to a strong alkaline chemical.
“According to the forensic doctor, it was due to interaction with a strong alkaline chemical,” he explained.
It is known that the bodies of the mother and child were found by local residents on Wednesday, 25 February, afternoon. The two bodies were suspected of being burned. They were also found in a state of undress.
