Authority: IKN is not just for state administration, but also for sustainable tourism
The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority has emphasised that the development of IKN, spanning parts of the Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara Regencies in East Kalimantan, is projected not only as a state administrative city but also as a centre for sustainable tourism development.
“The development of nature and cultural tourism is being implemented in Indonesia’s new capital, so it is not merely projected as a state administrative city,” stated the Secretary of the IKN Authority, Bimo Adi Nursanthyasto, in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara, on Monday.
The IKN area is being shaped into a new destination that blends modern development with the natural landscapes and local wisdom of Kalimantan, while prioritising environmental preservation, local culture, and the involvement of surrounding communities.
Tourism development is expected to create business opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as the services and transport sectors, particularly for local residents. “Developing the tourism sector is one of the steps to accelerate economic growth around IKN,” he added.
Within the Government Core Area (KIPP) of IKN, glamping areas are being prepared, targeting tourists who wish to enjoy nature without sacrificing the comfort of modern facilities. Furthermore, several supporting facilities are currently under development, including a convention centre, botanical garden, culinary centre, tourist information centre, healthcare facilities, and a Nusantara cultural centre.
“That concept is part of the sustainable tourism development in IKN,” he said.
The IKN Authority is also preparing various environment-based destinations, intended to become premier tourist attractions by combining Kalimantan’s tropical nature with modern facilities. “The nature tourism area is being prepared for eco-friendly tourism, wellness retreats, and cultural tourism that involves local communities,” concluded Bimo Adi Nursanthyasto.
